There are 3 type LCD display type,which are reflective,transmissive. And transflective.

The refleceive LCD display  has a piece of reglective plate on the bottom poliarizer,it generally used in 

outside or well-lit offices.

The transmissive LCD display has a pieces of transmissive plate on the bottom polarizer,it generally used in 

poor lighting environments and must need backlight.

The transflective LCD display is in between the above two type LCD display,the bottom polarizer can be 

partially reflective,generally with backlight,turn off the backlight when the light is good and turn on the 

backlight when light is poor.
